Ever since Sunday night, rumors have been swirling that former talk show host Oprah Winfrey is preparing to run for president after she gave a speech that brought Hollywood’s liberal elite to their feet at the Golden Globes. Now, however, Oprah’s presidential dreams may be dead in the water as some damning videos from her past have just come back to haunt her.
In one clip from the 1990s, Oprah clearly doubts whether Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, something that violates even basic Christian beliefs.
When an audience member asked, “What about Jesus?” Oprah defiantly answered her by repeating the question, “What about Jesus?” Christian Newswire reported that Oprah then explained that she had been a Baptist until she heard a charismatic Pastor make the statement that God was a jealous God. Oprah said that she now thinks God was simply love and God being described as a Jealous God made her really stop and think.
“Oprah Winfrey has in reality just exposed her own lack of understanding about the God of Christianity. God may be a God of love, but he is also a God of justice and judgment,” said Don Swarthout, President of Christians Reviving America’s Values. “The point is there are millions upon millions of Christians in the United States who thoroughly believe what Jesus taught in the Bible and for Oprah to come out against that teaching so strongly is simply appalling. Oprah should really stop to think before she goes off preaching her own unfounded beliefs to the world on her show.”
This comes after another damning clip of Oprah surfaced in which she bashed older white Americans, saying they “just need to die.” During a 2013 interview, Oprah was asked if she thought racism has “gotten better” and if she thought the problem was solved.
“Of course problem is not solved. You know, as long as people can be judged by the color of their skin, problem’s not solved,” Oprah fired back. “As long as there are people who still, there’s a whole generation — I say this, you know, I said this, you know, for apartheid South Africa, I said this for my own, you know, community in the south — there are still generations of people, older people, who were born and bred and marinated in it, in that prejudice and racism, and they just have to die.”
